Data Subscription

The Health Planning Council of Southwest Florida (HPCSWF) is contracted with the State of Florida to collect, analyze and report hospital and nursing home utilization data to support the Certificate of Need Program. The HPCSWF collects this information monthly from all licensed facilities in the seven county region of District 8 (Charlotte, Collier, Desoto, Glades, Hendry, Lee and Sarasota counties). The HPCSWF compiles this data in an electronic format (MS Excel) and offers a subscription to all facilities in the area and other interested customers.

The subscription includes access to the current calendar year data by month and the previous six years of data also by month plus the option to receive assistance with the data analysis. Subscribers receive access to a webpage with the updated Excel files with corrections, revisions, and updated data monthly plus additional reports of interest to the community. Subscription rates for facilities are based on the number of licensed beds.

There are eleven statutorily authorized local health councils in Florida. Chapter 408.033, Florida Statutes, outlines the establishment and functions of each regional local health council. The Health Planning Council of Southwest Florida’s (HPC) responsibility for the collection of utilization data is defined in detail in Chapter 408.033 (1)(b)4 and 11 as well as Chapter 408.033 (3)(b). That language authorizes and requires our agency to collect this data from health care facilities located in Agency for Health Care Administration District 8.
